Adoption and Child Custody

Adoption and Child Custody

Sermons Law, PLLC  family lawyers help families resolve issues surrounding children and families.  To that end, our experienced family law attorneys routinely help families with issues such as adoptions and child custody determinations.

Adoptions

Adoptions involve the legal process of one or people becoming the legal parent(s) of a child or, in some instances, another adult.  Afterwards, the new parents will now be the legal parents.  Compared to adopting children, adopting adults is rare, but is possible.

Timesharing (Parenting Plans)

Florida refers to Child Custody and Visitation as Parental Responsibility and timesharing.  The court must generally deal with parental responsibility and timesharing and create a parenting plan when there are children under 18 in a Divorce case.

In situations where the parents were not married, a Paternity case will be filed to deal with parenting and custody issues.

Temporary Custody by Extended Family

Where  extended family members care for a child, the court can grant temporary custody to the family members.  There are certain circumstances that must be in place to qualify.
