Guardianship

Guardianship cases involve the court deciding whether an individual lacks capacity to handle his or her own affairs.  After a court determines a person to lack capacity the court appoints a legal guardian to provide for the needs of the person, known as the Ward.  Guardian are appointed over the person or the property.  Guardians are appointed over children, and also over elderly persons most often.  However, courts appoint guardians for people of all ages.

Elder Law

Elder law involves a wide variety of legal issues affecting aging members of our community.  This ranges from creating care plans through proper documentation that can help avoid the need for a family member to file a guardianship case.  This includes putting advanced directives in placed, log term care planning, Medicaid planning, and protection from elder abuse through filing injunctions fro protection in appropriate cases.
